AfroTechie is dedicated and committed to making a lasting impact on our communities through our projects and activities. We have recognized the need for quality STEM programs and resources that are accessible for all regardless of income, racial background, or zip code. By providing accessible and free STEM resources online we are able to reach others beyond our current locations. In order to increase STEM literacy everywhere, we must equip people with the tools they need to host their own successful programs. That is why we offer websites, presentations, and curriculum guides for everyone, regardless of location, to utilize for themselves.
EDUCATION & OUTREACH
We understand that education is the most powerful tool that any child could have. Which is why hosting STEM programs and camps are extremely important to us. By partnering with other like-minded organizations, we have been able to host several successful youth programs targeting minority and low-income children.
AfroTechie is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. We are very proud of the progress we have continued to make since 2017 by democratizing access to STEM. Here are our three biggest activities that we do to promote positive change and learning in our communities.
STEM PROGRAMS AND CAMPS
GUEST SPEAKING AND LECTURING
At AfroTechie, hosting STEM programs is at the backbone of our mission. STEM camps are not easy feats, but through working together with other like-minded organizations and putting the education of our children first we have been able to host several successful programs. Whether it is over the summer or during the school year we have been able to reach hundreds of children to teach and engage with them about STEM.
Spreading information and knowledge about STEM to minority and low-income students is a key part of what we do at AfroTechie. We have had the honor and the privilege of being a guest lecturer at Girl Power Miami and Honeyshine Inc. There we taught the value and importance of STEM in the 21st century. AfroTechie also had the privilege of representing BotsForAll on several occasions at the Emerge Americas Convention. There we helped work a booth and spread information about both organizations.
While AfroTechie works hard to increase STEM literacy in the Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, we understand that there are places outside of these counties that also need these programs and resources. Democratizing STEM is vital as technology becomes more and more prominent in our society. So, we have dedicated time and effort to provide the tools and resources we use to create, manage, and complete our camps and lectures online and free of charge.
Providing equal access to STEM for all is our mission here at AfroTechie and it requires us to look beyond where we work. Here are the accessible resources that we have created for you to use free of charge.
STEM CAMP/PROGRAM CURRICULUM GUIDE
We know how challenging it is to host your own STEM camp with all the planning, creating instructional materials, getting students, and finding a safe instructional space. So we designed and created a guide on how to run and manage a STEM Program. This guide will offer advice, tips, and resources based on our own experience.
STEM WEBSITES AND PROGRAMS MASTER LIST
Since 2016, AfroTechie has worked with several different applications, websites, and programs to teach STEM to children. We have decided to compile them into a list with information regarding price, pros and cons, and uses. This master list can be used as a supplement to the STEM curriculum guide or utilized solo.
